How evidence-based is the course?
Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) is a well established training programme for work-related stress. It focuses on bolstering your Psychological Flexibility, which improves your health, well-being and performance at work.
You’ll learn much more about what it is and how to do it in the course. Simply put, psychological flexibility is your abilities to focus your attention, open-up to difficult thoughts and feelings and to do what matters most.
How much do online courses actually help?
Several studies have looked at the effects of online training to tackle work-related stress. There are two things that matter. One, is that you’re learning something that’s been shown to work. We’ve got that covered. And, two, that you get support from someone along the way.
At Self-Help School, there is one useful way you can get support:
COACHING – Coaching gives you some 1:1 time with the course tutor. Talk through any issues, places where you’re getting stuck and identify what you need to do keep moving forwards.
How ready are you for an advanced stress management course?
This course is suitable for people who want to develop their skills in coping with stress to a higher level. You’ll learn the basics about what stress and you can take the lessons at your own pace. There are little quizes along the way to test your knowledge, but there are no formal exams to worry about.
You won’t be jumping in at the deep-end. As you can see from the learning objectives, you start with an overview and update your knowledge of stress and its impact. Once you’ve got a clear understanding of that, you then move forwards practicing the new sets of skills.
Is there any point doing the course if you’re not usually good at keeping up with the exercises?
Persistence is important when working through a problem. It helps you keep going after the novelty has worn off. We aim to keep you interested and to teach you how to build new habits by creating systems. This is what the final module is all about.
